ERIC BROWN

Founder and President, Urbane Apartments

Founder and President; Urbane Media

Co-Founder; Street Eatzz

Brown’s background is rooted in the rental and real estate industries. He founded metro Detroit’s Urbane Apartments ten years ago, after serving as senior vice president at Village Green Companies, a major Midwest apartment developer for nearly twenty years. He established a proven track record of effectively repositioning rental properties in a way that added value for investors while enhancing the resident experience.

With his apartment company, he dared to abandon traditional marketing efforts and instead established a strong online presence. He created sites for Urbane Apartments on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. Brown established the Urbane Lobby, a social network where residents could share photographs and videos and socialize. UrbaneLife online magazine took that idea one step further, targeting a specific demographic by providing fresh online content daily.

Brown’s social media marketing strategy and fearless approach to business has garnered national media attention and feature stories in Entrepreneur, Business Week, Builder, BizNet and Multifamily Executive. He was named as a Voice of Innovation in Social Media last year in Business Week magazine, has been profiled locally, and travels across the U.S. to share his story. Urbane has established a significant digital footprint.

In 2010, Brown met Chef Tom Keshishain when Urbane Media partnered with the PBS-TV Series “Dining in the D” to help with digital marketing and social outreach efforts. Chef Tom took the “Dining in the D” viewers into the dining rooms and kitchens of the area’s best restaurants on WTVS/Channel 56.

Brown and Chef Tom discovered that they both shared a passion for good food, dining at local restaurants and being champions for the street food culture in the Great Lakes region. They teamed up in 2011 and founded Street Eatzz, a company created for producing, marketing and selling a line of Michigan-based food products.
